Course Outline

Day 1:

A. Theory

  • Introduction and course overview (0.5 hour)
  • Mathematical modeling of production systems (1.5 hours)
  • Performance analysis of production systems (1 hour)
  • Continuous improvement of production systems (0.5 hour)
  • Bottleneck identification and elimination (1 hour)

B. PSE Toolbox

  • Tools for mathematical modeling, performance analysis, continuous improvement, and bottleneck identification (0.5 hour)
  • Exercises on mathematical modeling, performance analysis, continuous improvement, and bottleneck identification (1 hour)

C. Project/Lab

  • Structural modeling of production systems of interest and their performance analysis (2 hours)

 

Day 2:

A. Theory

  • Lean buffering design (1 hour)
  • Closed lines (1 hour)
  • Product quality (1 hour)
  • Measurement-based management of production systems (0.5 hour)
  • “Just right” operation (0.5 hour)

B. PSE Toolbox

  • Tools for lean buffering design, closed lines analysis and improvement, and product quality investigation (0.5 hour)
  • Exercises on lean buffer design, closed lines, and product quality (0.5 hour)

C. Project/Lab

  • Improvement and re-design of production systems of interest and report preparation (3 hours)
