The New Product Development and Commercialization Center will connect small rural manufacturers with university-based research teams to test, develop, and commercialize new products. New manufacturing product development is an economic development strategy that contributes to a diversified rural economy and helps rural communities remain economically sustainable.
The Center project will:
- Solicit proposals from rural manufacturers with new product ideas
- Develop new products
- Plan and analyze the steps needed to make the new product commercially viable
- Connect rural manufacturers with the local business community
- Assist in market analysis and strategic planning
- Encourage entrepreneurship
- Help retain manufacturers in rural areas
- Help retain and create jobs
- Help to create the elements of a manufacturing cluster
