Principles and Practices of Lean Production Systems

This course will prerare students to:
  • Apply Toyota philosophies and tools in a manufacturing, service or office environment
  • Teach TPS roles and behaviors
  • Learn the basics of teamwork and team development
  • Understand which lean transformation strategies are successful and sustainable
  • Coach the Toyota Problem Solving method using Quality Circles
  • Understand the significance of standards, standardization and standardized work

Introductory course will provide a solid grasp of the fundamental principles and practices of the Toyota Production System (TPS). TPS is the leading example of lean manufacturing, one that emphasizes Team Member development and method based improvement. Learn in this course how Toyota implements the core principles of TPS and the special terms used in its implementation. The course will include an overview of TPS methodologies and the essential culture needed for successful application. The course will call attention to the key role of the lean facilitator, who must know how to teach TPS principles to other members of the organization. Knowledge of lean principles and philosophies will give students a clear understanding of the benefits of lean manufacturing and help them avoid common misunderstandings about lean operation. Instruction will combine lectures, hands-on manufacturing simulations, exercises, problem assignments and projects drawn from industry. Course is intended for those who want to know the Toyota Production System and benchmark best practices. The course is intended for lean facilitators, Team Leaders, plant supervision, office personnel, and management. There are no prerequisites for this course.
